Outstanding post! Having been to Afghanistan multiple times as well, you hit the nail on the head. Most of the griping does come from wanting more freedom of movement, not from being there unwillingly. Awesome reference to the book Stolen Valor, which is truly a must read account of the post Vietnam veteran. This post gets two thumbs up, 5 stars, and an A+!

John Stanton, there is nothing as self-serving as wandering around the internet spewing out links to your own "articles". The reason you have to try so hard to draw attention to them is that they are so poorly written, nobody takes them seriously.

Tim, good post. It is good to know that there are people out there who will call bull when they see somebody making money for publishing what he sees in his head, not what he sees with his eyes. I hope the Pelch has not threatened to sue you yet.

I have MARINES in my family that were in Vietnam, they refussed to watch (or read) "hollyweirds" version of the war they fought and if RPY is talking trash about Gen. James L. Jones USMC commanding then they may want to put a jungle boot up his... well you know where that was going. I used to read RPY's stuff and every once and a while I would think "well that sounds like more hype than fact". I think I will pass on reading any more of his dribble.

Major, I really enjoy watching when you let someone have a good thrashing.

Give Bot my best and don't be too hard on the lad.

If you want me to drop by for a visit just let me know. I can deliver RPY's silly mustache on a silver platter if you'd like. ;) semper fi

Tim,

I showed my Dad (an old 3 Para guy in the 1960s and 70s) this article as well as others and while he is horrified that there are Marines/ex-Marines still running around (although you'll *never* get that out of him, Airborne-easy and all that) he backs you to the hilt none the less. The only decent reporting of the effects of these two wars on the people who happen to fight them on our behalf has been few and far between and the work you're doing right now is fantastic.

Keep it up and I'll try and bring Dad round in the meantime ;)

Tim,
I don't know whether the exchanges between Jarv and I ever reached you, but the origin of the recent
response from your Dad ( hillarious ), was my question about the apparent gap between Obama's vocal
stand on Iraq, with his obsession with "kicking ass " in Afhganistan .He goes out of his way to explain
that he is not talking about building the infrastructure, but shooting the bad guys.
What does he know, that I don't know? Bush has Iraq as his yoke, will Afhganistan be Obama's ?
I like my hat --- I'll send some money to get more for my cheap kids.
          John John LYNCH Cleaver
I was named after Uncle Jarvis's Father -- Great guy -- 6 kids plus another family member who
lived with them. He sold can goods for L.H. Parkes, and drove an old Ford coup with a rumble seat
all over New Jersey, selling Number 10 cans. He had enough "samples" left over to feed the clan,
and opened a candy and nut shop, to keep the family whole. You come from very strong stock, as you know from your Dad

Greetings! The nefarious John Stanton of the 15 part HTS series writing. I sent a similar message to Old Blue. I wanted to share a couple of briefs with you and also provide a link or two to the series. Please send an email back to me at cioran123@yahoo.com and I will send you the LTG Kimmons Update of 2007 and a G2 Update in October.

I do this for no self-serving purpose, but rather to point out that there are 30 plus sources on this effort and they are in and out of CONUS. This is their story as they are the ones who are on the ground and in other posts in CONUS. The latest from the PM Fondacaro to HTS members is below.

There is some confusion about whether this is an intel-like program. I've attached a 2007 game-plan brief to LTG Kimmons who is an Intel maven. http://www.dami.army.pentagon.mil/

Anyway, here's the linkage. My views on this program and suggestions for change are fairly well-known. Also, remember that Fondacaro controls what press gets to get into HTS. He should have known how RYP covers and writes. It is what it is as Popeye once said. This is no Vietnam or even Korea and, in my own view, comparisons are off-base.

http://cryptome.info/0001/hts-mystic.htm also at pravda.ru, seoul times, etc.

Latest from the HTS PM yesterday

"HTS Teammates,

In the interest of giving you all the good news, all at the same
time, I am forced to ask you all for one more day of patience and
forbearance as we chase the last action through to approval at
Department of the Army level. Issues we are after are higher pay caps
(which are already resolved), danger pay and compensatory time. The
responsibility to get the right answers to you is mine alone. In that
same vein, that we are late doing so is my fault alone too. We are
breaking a lot of glass along the way, but its glass that's long overdue
to be broken. The next time we answer it will be complete and it will
be right. Grant us one more pass on your already generous and patient
forbearance. In the interim, please throw any and all rocks at me.

Sincerely

Steve Fondacaro
